Discipleship

Carrying the cross, this doesn’t sound like something we want to do... but it’s part of the Christian life. It’s a whole package:

This life also includes unspeakable joy, overwhelming grace, undeserved mercy, unconditional love, and unconditional love. We tend to separate the cross from the package, but it doesn’t work that way. Any suffering we do will have purpose and will be connected to all the other stuff in the package. It doesn’t make sense because it’s supernatural.

So what does it mean to ‘take up your cross’ anyway? It doesn’t mean bearing a heavy burden - God asks us to give those burdens up and let Him help us. Jesus said it meant, “For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self?” Luke 9:24-25

Taking up your cross means putting God first and to stop being self-serving. This is t what our culture says, AT ALL. Our culture tells us to take care of ourselves because no one else will; to look out for #1; if it doesn’t feel good, don’t do it... you get the picture. Self care isn’t wrong, it’s important because we are to love others the way we love ourselves, and caring for and serving God is more important. #betterisoneday #discipleship #christianliving #humbleyourself #selfcare #takeupyourcross #yourjourneytobeingwhole #shalom #dailydevotional
