Escaping...

Seeking Gods way through the circumstances we face isn’t usually our first instinct. The first thing we want to do is escape. There isn’t anything wrong with that - even Jesus asked God to “let this cup pass from Him.” But Jesus’s next words are the key “but not my will but Yours be done.”

It’s not wrong to want to be spared the suffering or the lessons we learn in times of trial or hardship. It becomes a problem when we choose our will over God’s. Then we are on our own path, not the one He has planned, where He gives us a good future. Sometimes the circumstances are the refiner’s fire, and sometimes they are attacks from the enemy and other times they are just collateral damage from our broken world. God actually knows, we can only guess.

Seeking God and following His will is the key to our success, and it doesn’t always look like we think it will. Sometimes it looks like going through some ugly stuff covered by God’s grace and led by His Spirit. Sometimes that is exactly how we actually escape...
