I think we’ve all thought about this, at least a little. Usually we think of the people who are most dear to us and how we would want to spend time with them, love them, eat and laugh with them one last time. Jesus did too, but He wanted to serve them one more time.
Don’t forget, He’d been serving them for 3 years: Teaching them, healing their family members and friends, leading them, saving them, inspiring them and loving them unconditionally. But Jesus wanted to show them one more time what humility and love really look like, and teach them to do the same. It was so important to Him, that He did it before He dismissed Judas to betray Him. He wanted His disciples to know that He knew, and still loved and forgave Judas… He wanted Judas to know too.
