When they talk about this wilderness in the Bible, this is what they are referring to. A vast wasteland of rolling sand and rock with no water. This isn't what I'd pictured at all, but now the scriptures make so much more sense to me.

Shilo - the first home of the Ark of the Covenant and the Tent of Meeting in the Promised land.

Mt. Joy - aka the Tomb of Samuel. This is the High Place at Gibeon where the Tent of Meeting and the Ark of the Covenant rested while Solomon's temple was being built.

Caves in the Shephala - many stories of martyrs here.

The Valley of Elah was the site of many important battles, including David fought Goliath and when the sun stood still for the Joshua and the Army of Israel.

The Garden of Gethsamane, where Jesus prayed before his arrest and crucifixtion.

Masada - The Stronghold by the Dead Sea.

On the slope of Mt. Zion. The Temple Mount and the Western Wall.
