Following Christ isn’t a shortcut.
I’ve heard preachers claim that if you follow Jesus it will lead to success and wealth, blessing and thriving. And, while the promises of God are for blessing and success, God’s definition of these things can be vastly different than what we’re thinking of.
Following Christ requires endurance. God gives us the fruit of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and self-control - because we NEED all of them to do it well. Following Jesus was never the quick path or the easy path, the Word warns us about this - it’s also going to include suffering and hardship - just as Jesus has to endure, so will we. It’s ok though - for the Lord is with us!
