The Bible tells us not to be afraid, to fear not, 365 times. It’s important to choose faith in God over fear. That faith comes from a deep awe and reverence for God, our Holy Father, Creator of the Universe. And, for His son Jesus who gave everything as payment of our debt to redeem and save us. And for the Holy Spirit who knows everything about us and still stays to comfort us, lead us and help us through it all.
This deep awe and reverence is “the fear of the Lord.” It recognizes that God is God and you and I are not! The whole verse says,
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Proverbs 9:10
Knowledge of the Holy One - that means that the more we know The Lord the more understanding we have. The more we meditate on the word of God the deeper our understanding and faith become, and our awe and reverence for the Lord grows the more we know Him.
But, when we disregard His word, we know it and it is sin. Each time we do this consciously, we are losing that reverence for God and we can also lose our understanding.
