We’ve been going through the Sermon on the Mount @fccphx and yesterday was all about loving your enemies and praying for those who persecute you. We talked about loving some of those people who are difficult to love. They require extra grace and patience and don’t tend to be nice or kind or even appreciative when someone is kind to them.
We talked about loving someone who might actually be out to get you - an enemy. Maybe you don’t have an enemy like this, but there is someone who is always competing with you for something and trying to out do you.
Then there is loving those who disagree with you. This didn’t used to be so rare. When I was growing up we could have conversations with different points of view and still love and respect one another. We, the Church, need to figure this out! Whether it’s political differences or social preferences or whatever - the Bible tells us to get along! Our loyalty is to God and to our brothers and sisters in Christ, there is no red or blue involved.
Is someone persecuting you? I’ve experienced that before and it’s very frustrating and demoralizing. @chuck.foreman.71 challenged us in this area and I’m going to take up the challenge and pass it to you. As Americans, we are hated and persecuted by terrorists. There is an organization that helps us to adopt a terrorist that we pray for. Pray for them to find the Truth, Jesus, and to love instead of hate. For their trauma to heal and for them influence others to do the same. https://atfp.org
