The opposite of love is selfishness.
We each have a human need for love and for relationships with others. We long to be seen and heard and accepted for who we are and our perfect Father knows it. Jesus lived through it and then died to fill that need for all time. But when we are selfish, we end up isolated and alone. We get exactly what we don’t want.
Our culture teaches selfishness rather than love. If we’re always looking out for number 1, putting ourselves first and demanding our needs from others, then we end up alone. Sometimes God sets us apart so that He can heal us though.
I think God uses loneliness to teach us about His presence and companionship.
