We all expect love to be easy - to come naturally to us. The truth is we feel love naturally, but the act of loving someone is just plain hard work! It requires letting go of selfishness and putting the needs of another ahead of your own - without reminding them of your “sacrifice.” It means forgiving when you’re hurt and understanding when you’re disappointed. This is even true of our love for Jesus and God...
Hate is the easy way out. But without forgiving, bitterness takes root in our souls and literally poisons us and serves the devil. Forgiveness doesn’t mean that you have to like or trust them again, just that you trust God to keep His word and bring justice and work to have the love of Christ towards them. That’s the work.
