Being Holy...

Holiness is one of those things we don’t really know how to do - it’s not in our nature, however, it is God’s very nature and He lives in us. In the Old Testament and then again in 1 Peter, we are told to “be holy as God is holy.” How in the heck are we supposed to do that? Does it mean we’re supposed to adhere to a bunch of rules and rituals so that we are insulated from sin? I don’t think so - because that kind of legalistic thinking is kind of sinful... So what do we do? I think we have to let God set us apart for HIS will and work. In pursuing His will, we are made holy by Him - not on our own. It’s a daily process, not a destination. We have to resist our old ways while seeking God and following His purpose for each of us.

“So roll up your sleeves, put your mind in gear, be totally ready to receive the gift that’s coming when Jesus arrives. Don’t lazily slip back into those old grooves of evil, doing just what you feel like doing. You didn’t know any better then; you do now. As obedient children, let yourselves be pulled into a way of life shaped by God’s life, a life energetic and blazing with holiness. God said, “I am holy; you be holy.”” 1 Peter‬ ‭1:13-16‬ ‭MSG‬‬
