Freedom in Christ is about being free from sin, not free do whatever we want. Our human nature wants all kinds of thing that are harmful, even extremely harmful. That’s because our human nature is also our sin nature. It’s our spirit that can overcome it if we are United with Holy Spirit - not on our own.
Jesus died to give us this gift, to set us free from sin and to experience His kingdom on earth until we get to heaven. Walking in His kingdom is walking in true freedom - not in slavery to sin, self-gratification and feel-good addictions. I’ve met prisoners and former prisoners who are more free than many of the other peopleI know.
“Jesus said, “I tell you most solemnly that anyone who chooses a life of sin is trapped in a dead-end life and is, in fact, a slave. A slave can’t come and go at will. The Son, though, has an established position, the run of the house. So if the Son sets you free, you are free through and through.” John 8:34 MSG
