Pride

When we “make someone proud” it’s a good thing, right? When we take pride in our work, that’s good too? When we work hard and accomplish a goal, we should be proud of ourselves, right?

Our model is Jesus Christ. We never hear about Him taking pride in anything He did - He always have credit to His Father. His humility set Him apart. Humility is all about understanding your place - if you’re a leader then you should lead with authority, but not arrogance. If you’re a parent, you should teach and raise your children with respect and love, not controlling so that your kids will make you look good to the world. They are a gift from God.

It is ok to feel that deep satisfaction for a job well done or accomplishing a goal when you’ve worked hard for something - just don’t let the work or the goal become more important to you than your daily walk with Christ. Our daily walk is one way we keep balanced and humble.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

Colossians 3:23-24 NIV
