As I grew up, I learned to pray asking God to bless me and to help me with the stuff I was doing - like help with school and what I wanted for my birthday. I also had a heart for the poor and maligned from an early age, and so I prayed for those suffering from injustice and poverty.
As a teenager, I suffered from intense chronic pain and I couldn’t walk - my prayers changed. They became much more self-centered and were often desperate prayers. It was during this time that I learned to cling to Jesus and walk in the Spirit. It’s also when I started in worship ministry. I learned to pray for the lost and for the people who were coming to church.
It wasn’t until I was mature in my faith and made Bible time and study a priority that I learned to watch for what God was doing. To listen for His voice and look for His work, and then to join Him. Rather than asking God to help ME with all my stuff, I get to help Him with stuff and it’s amazing. After doing this, something even more amazing can happen...
The Lord will ask you to do something, something bigger than yourself and something you don’t have the answers for - something that you cannot do on your own and that requires faith all the way. It’s usually part of the purpose for which He created you. When God does this you have a very important choice to make... #justdoit #createdonpurposeforapurpose #calledandchosen #prayer #discipleship #childofgod #goodgoodfather #faith #shalom #onespiritonechurch #dailydevotional
